2015 Beijing SMIC Private School World Book Day

In the spirit of the World Book Day on April 23rd, the Library will hold a reading competition across the school in order to cultivate a passion and habit of reading among students.

  1. Time

    April 20(Monday) – May 15, (Friday) 2015

  2. Competition Rules

    1)  During the competition, each student in each class should borrow at least one book from the library. The class with the highest borrowing per capita wins the competition; and the class with one or more students not borrowing a book disqualifies from the competition.

    2)  To encourage maximized usage of the library’s resources, this competition will only count books borrowed from the library by students in person; books from the book corner in classrooms or family collections will not be counted in this competition.

    3)  Calculation of scores and awards will be made on a group basis. Grouping is listed as follow:

    4)  At the end of the period, the library will check if all students in all classes have borrowed books. We will calculate borrowing per capita for each class and rank classes in each group. To the class ranking highest in each group, the library will randomly select 1% (rounded up) of its borrowing to quiz students on (one book per student). Three to five questions will be raise about each book, where answers can be found in the text; three or more correct answers is considered passing. When students fail a book, one book will be deducted from the classes borrowing per capita, ranking will be retaken and another book will be quizzed on. This process shall repeat till all quizzes are passed. The class ranking highest in the group after the quizzes receives prizes.

    5)  Students are encouraged to submit to the library sharing of a book, as well as their experience and passion for reading in forms of essay, drawing, book report, book recommendation and quote collection (5 quotes per book). This is not compulsory; however, for each five works submitted one book will be added to the class’ borrowing per capita. After the competition, student works will be exhibited in the library.

    6)  During this competition, students should not read books they have read before or books significantly lower than their reading levels.

    7)  Parents are encouraged to read together with students within and beyond this competition to help students cultivate good reading habits.

    3. Prizes

Prizes will be issued to winning classes at the end of the competition.
