Middle School Academic

The middle school academic aims at the basic education and core literacy of middle school students, inheriting Chinese culture and expanding international vision. The junior high school is oriented to meet the needs of students both to study abroad and to take the Chinese language examinations, and provides small class size and customized teaching services for students.

SMIC Middle School implements small-class teaching to take care of every student's classroom learning, physical and mental development. At the same time, it focuses on experimental teaching and inquiry-based learning, introduces elective courses and club activities suitable for the physical and mental development of middle school students, and cultivates students' independent learning ability.

Course Features

The middle school curriculum is divided into four main sections: basic courses, growth courses, extension courses and research courses, which meet students' needs for further education in China and preparation for English courses for further education abroad.

Management Features


Strengthen the teaching of English curriculum: English teaching is divided into advance classes (ELA) and bilingual classes (OE), with a tiered class system according to students' English foundation and learning ability, as well as ESL classes for students with weak English foundation for differentiated teaching, laying a solid foundation for students to go abroad and take Chinese exams.


Implementation of small class size: With no more than 30 students in each class, teachers can pay better attention to each student and increase the opportunities for individual care and counseling.


Comprehensive student evaluation system: A comprehensive evaluation system is implemented for students. Instead of using grades as the only goal, students are given different weights for attendance, classroom performance, homework presentation, test scores, etc., and their abilities are evaluated comprehensively in all aspects.

Multiple choices for graduates: solid foundation courses guarantee students to go on to higher education in China, solid foreign language skills guarantee students to study abroad, flexible study time helps students to develop their interests



Subject-specific Activities


Science and Chemistry Interdisciplinary STEAM Competition

In order to cultivate the creativity, communication and cooperation skills of middle school students, the teachers of the middle school science group use the STEAM concept to guide them to learn through project research and hands-on practice, which is a more integrated interdisciplinary learning approach that greatly cultivates and enhances the children's comprehensive ability and science core literacy.

The Middle School STEAM competition has been held for three consecutive years. The children organize and select their own projects, explore science, do hands-on experiments, connect theory to practice, and stimulate their interest in independent inquiry.

The "SMIC Fire Cup" Literary Hero Competition

A comprehensive knowledge competition was organized by integrating history, geography and political science subjects. Teachers and students worked together to create original questions for the competition, and to develop students' ability to cooperate, investigate, and manage time and themselves while competing for knowledge.
